Hi, I'm an assistant instructional professor of writing at the University of Florida who teaches at the intersection of writing and artificial intelligence.
My research interests include science fiction, semantics, and semiotics.
Welcome to my teaching and academic portfolio.
I graduated from Purdue University in 2017 with a PhD in English, specializing in theory, semantics, and semiotics. Since then, I have been teaching introductory rhetoric and composition, research, and professional writing to students in Florida.
Generally, I craft solutions with beautifully intended consequences. Whether mentoring, writing, teaching, or delivering international talks, I inspire electric moments of discovery when, in an instant, I show people how to understand the world differently. I imagine possibilities laterally, consider matters multiaxially, and approach topics obliquely.
My research interests largely rest with genre and philosophy. My current projects include a study on destruction in science fiction, an examination of the neurocultures in science fiction, and a particular sense of the word for truth.
I am always looking for new ways to help departments and organizations achieve their goals. Let's have a conversation about the future.
Students often hear that employers value people who can think outside the box, but who shows them how, let alone how to out-think it and from the outside? I do. As a former visiting instructor at the University of South Florida and a visiting assistant professor at the University of Tampa, I know how to create compelling learning experiences.
My scholarly activities span semantics and cognition, and unapologetically tend toward ultramodern projects in science fiction and neuroethics. From interrogating how we recognize science fiction to imagining how the genre creates neurocultures, I explore the intersection of SF, philosophy, and popular culture.
I am at my best when I am helping others. Between serving on committees, hosting international conferences, publishing a journal, and writing grants, I foster connections. While my work for institutions and cognitive research center has made a real difference, mentoring students has been the greatest honor.
